The New J-NS Logo

Water, wood and sun--these elements inspired the J-NS logo design. This logo brings together the cultures, natural environments and spirit of Japan and Norway--water flows to wood against a red sun decorated in patterns that represent art, craftsmanship and energy.

Hand drawn from its inception, the logo is set in both horizontal and vertical formats, using three colours, two of which comprise the Japanese and Norwegian flags. It was also made in a circular format for some applications. During refinement, the small inconsistencies on the edges and in the lines, were left as is. This allows for some of the craft behind it to come through, evocative of the unique beauty and art--for example mokuhanga, wood block prints.
